Mexico

Let me tell you, there’s something incredibly magical about enjoying a sunset fiesta and sipping a tequila-filled cocktail on a stunning tropical beach. If that’s your idea of paradise, I have the perfect recommendation for your next getaway — Mexico, of course!

This spicy North American country is packed with quirky attractions, cultural landmarks, delicious cuisine, and endless shimmering beaches. I’m here to share all sorts of insights, tips, and suggestions to make your Mexican adventure the trip of a lifetime. So put on your sombrero, and let’s get into it.

Top Picks: Exciting Places To Visit in Mexico

First up, let me tell you about some of the best places to visit in Mexico. As you might already know, it’s a big country — the 14th largest in the world, in fact. With that in mind, it goes without saying that you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to picking where to go on your Mexican adventure.

Now, choosing from the array of fantastic options itinerary might not be the easiest of tasks, so I’m here to help you out. While there are many more amazing places to consider, here are two of my top picks based on my own travel experiences.

Soak Up Island Vibes in Cancun

I’m sure you are familiar with Cancun, one of the best resort towns in Mexico. This popular and luxurious coastal town is in the Yucatán Peninsula, bordering the Caribbean Sea. Cancun is well-known for its electrifying nightlife, pristine golden beaches, and laid-back island atmosphere. So, if you’re a beach bum looking for a party, you’re in luck.

Besides indulging in a margarita at a beach bar (although that does sound pretty awesome, right?), there’s a crazy amount of fun things to do in Cancun. From visiting the Museo Maya Cancun or wandering around the famous Mercado 28 flea market, you’ll find boatloads of fun activities to fill your day.

Relax on the Beach in Tulum

With the sparkling Caribbean waters right on your doorstep, believe me when I say Tulum is a seaside town everyone needs to visit at least once. Like Cancun, it also deservedly earned a spot on my list of the best resort towns in Mexico.

What I love about this gorgeous town is that you’ll never get bored, as there are many diverse and exciting things to do in Tulum. To make the most of your time here, I’d highly recommend hopping on a rented bicycle and exploring the town centre, Tulum Pueblo. It’s filled with markets, taco trucks, street vendors, and delightful cafes.

And that’s not even the best part. From Tulum Pueblo, it’s only a three-mile walk to the best beaches — Las Palmas, Playa Ruinas, and Playa Paraiso. All three of which I highly recommend visiting.

Must-See Landmarks in Mexico

Considering the country’s intriguing history and colourful culture, it comes as no surprise that there are many incredible landmarks in Mexico. The Catedral Metropolitana, the Angel of Independence, and the Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe are just some iconic structures I’d say you definitely can’t miss seeing.

Speaking of unmissable places, if you’d like to tick one of the most famous landmarks in the world off your bucket list, you’ve got to stop at the Tulum Ruins. This intriguing archaeological site gives you a glimpse into the ancient Mayan Fortress that was once used as a gateway for trade.

Once there, why not show your appreciation to this incredible civilisation — we have them to thank for introducing cocoa beans (and, as a result, chocolate) to the world.

Interesting Mexican Trivia

Before embarking on your trip, you may want to have a look at my wide-ranging list of fun facts about Mexico to pick up some interesting tidbits about this spicy country.

Here’s a cool fact — Mexico City is built on the ruins of Tenochtitlan, a massive ancient Aztec civilisation. Talk about walking through history!

Another intriguing nugget of information is that Mexico is home to one of the most dangerous places in the world. I’m talking about none other than the stunningly gorgeous Cueva de los Cristales or Cave of Crystals. This natural wonder is filled with gigantic white gypsum crystals. But it’s considered tricky to navigate, largely thanks to the high temperatures, humidity, and inhospitable environment.

While I’m on the topic of Mexico’s natural wonders, I simply must mention the stunning Lake Bacalar, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world if you ask me. It’s located about a five-hour drive from Cancun or two-and-a-half hours from Tulum, but let me tell you, renting a car and driving there is well worth it.

The lake’s calm, clear, and sparkling blue waters set the stage for various watersports like paddle boarding, swimming, and kayaking. If this isn’t your thing, no worries — Bacalar is surrounded by secluded beaches, restaurants, clubs, and boutique shops you can easily get lost in for hours.

Nestled in the southern portion of North America, Mexico is a long-standing favourite vacation destination. In Mexico, you’ll come across an abundance of stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, awe-inspiring architecture, cultural attractions, and historical landmarks. There is so …
