Let’s start with Japan, possibly my favourite country in Asia. You can’t go past Tokyo and I highly recommend a visit to Kyoto. Kanazawa is my tip for a less well-known city in Japan to visit.

South Korea is an absolutely fascinating country. One of the highlights of my time there was visiting the border with North Korea – covered in my best Seoul Day Trips post. There is a great range of boutique hotels in Seoul.
Two neighborhoods not to miss in Seoul are Gangnam (remember the dance) and Myeongdong (the centre for Seoul Shopping). And there is more to Incheon than the airport. Use my Seoul 5 Day Itinerary post to make sure you don’t miss anything.
