What makes this city special is the variety of activities on offer that cater to every type of traveller. From shopping and alligator interactions to museum-hopping, there’s something for everyone. Not to mention, it’s a foodie’s paradise that offers countless delectable seafood establishments. Beach-bumming is simply one (excellent) way to spend your time here. Let’s dive right in!
1. Crab Island
This beautiful slice of paradise attracts water-lovers by the boatful! Yes, this popular sandbar spot can only be reached via boat and it’s a well-known summertime destination for locals and visitors. The shallow, wadable waters make it a spot people can spend hours hanging out at. You can take the Crab Island Shuttle or make a splash with your own private Crab Island rented boat.

Groups fill their cooler boxes and pack their water activities for a day of fun in the sun. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters you can relax on your boat, jam out to music or cool off on a float. For those who want to get active, rent a paddleboard from a local vendor, or even enjoy some fly fishing.
Although most people pack their own food and drinks, Crab Island does have floating food vendors and restaurants occasionally, but finding out beforehand may be worthwhile.
2. Destin Harbor Boardwalk
Harbor Boardwalk is one of those free attractions that provide the perfect place to spend a few hours when funds are in short supply.
The boardwalk stretches along the harbour and is a popular spot to catch a beautiful Florida sunset. The area includes a variety of shops to peruse and plenty of restaurants as well; many of them offer stunning water views and deals on delicious meals.

Others prefer to skip the evening crowds and visit first thing in the morning for a fresh perspective. Start your day right by breathing in the Gulf of Mexico’s fresh ocean air while getting in a leg stretch. Afterwards, take a stroll to The Breakfast Table or the Donut Hole Bakery Cafe – both open early and serve a memorable breakfast.
The boardwalk also hosts many annual events, including the Destin Seafood Festival and an annual fishing rodeo, so be sure to look out for any while you’re in the city.
3. Hire a Fishing Charter
Destin is known as The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village and boasts the largest charter fishing fleet in Florida. Here you get unique deepwater access in the northern gulf. Hiring a charter boat takes the pressure off and allows the experts to guide you to their secret honey-holes so that you can reel in the big fish.

4. Visit Gator Beach
The world’s greatest alligator park is a must during any trip to Destin. After all, nothing says Florida like alligators! These scaly creatures are quite a sight to behold and you can do so completely free of charge. That’s right, there is no admission fee and watching any of the gator shows won’t cost you a dime either.
This exciting spot offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with these fascinating creatures in a safe and controlled setting (certainly safer than trying to spot them in the wild).

The excitement continues. Fancy feeding one of their 100-plus alligators? Simply attach some of the specially formulated Gator Food for sale to a cane pole provided and voila! Once you’ve lowered the string down to the pond you will see some eager gators swimming closer to snatch up their snack.
Perhaps the feeding process doesn’t entice you as much as an Instagram-worthy snapshot with one of these scaly fellas. Whether you’re the adventurous type, an animal lover or simply looking to cross off a bucket-list item, you can hold a baby alligator for a small fee and create a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
5. Urban Air Adventure Park

Visitors will pick the base of their art, from canvases, pieces of wood, picture frames and even old window panes. From there you’ll get a tray to carry around while you pick out materials that tickle your fancy. Everything from rocks, shells, and broken glass, to mugs, old spoons and keys are up for grabs.

The next day your piece will be ready for collection, after being set with resin overnight. This is a unique Destin experience that will leave you feeling uplifted and relaxed.

Get up close to some bottlenose beauties on a magical sunset cruise. The waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay are teeming with bottle-nosed dolphins ready to be spotted.
You will be able to pick from various dolphin cruise tours on the harbour where operators will take you out in open-topped and glass-bottomed boats for a special viewing experience. You might even catch a golden sunset.

These cruises are offered year-round but can be best enjoyed during summer. Looking back at the views of Destin from your boat will also be an added bonus to your Florida experience.
