Searches for Canadian holidays have jumped more than 800 percent over the past five years, and a new ranking suggests most travelers have been chasing the wrong bucket list entirely.
New research from Iglu Cruise analyzed TripAdvisor review data across Canada’s 40 most visited attractions, ranking each by the percentage of five-star reviews it received. The result knocks two of the country’s most photographed landmarks down the list, and puts a small family-run vineyard on top.
A Winery Beats the Icons
Konzelmann Estate Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake took first place with an 86.4 percent five-star rating, ahead of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park and Niagara Falls itself. The winery sits directly on Lake Ontario and traces its winemaking roots back to Germany in 1893, before the family relocated the operation to Canada in 1984. The lake’s microclimate is well suited to aromatic whites and full-bodied reds, and the estate’s Vidal Icewine has picked up considerable acclaim.
For a country famous for waterfalls and mountains, a boutique vineyard topping the list says something about what today’s traveler actually values: intimacy and a sense of place over sheer scale.

Where the Rockies Still Deliver
Moraine Lake and Peyto Lake both earned their places on reputation alone. Moraine Lake’s turquoise water and Valley of the Ten Peaks backdrop once appeared on the Canadian twenty-dollar bill, and the view from the Rockpile Trail remains one of the most recognizable in North America. Personal vehicles are no longer permitted at the lake, so visitors need to plan around the park shuttle system rather than showing up expecting to drive straight in.
Peyto Lake, further along the Icefields Parkway, draws its striking colour from glacial rock flour suspended in the meltwater each summer. A paved path leads from the parking area to the viewing platform, making it one of the more accessible high-alpine views in the Rockies.
History and Gardens Round Out the List
Old Quebec, the only fortified city in North America north of Mexico, offers a different kind of appeal entirely. Its cobblestone streets, French-style bistros and the Château Frontenac hotel give visitors a European sensibility without leaving the continent. Ranked closely behind the Rockies’ natural wonders, it is a reminder that Canada’s UNESCO sites hold their own against its landscapes.
The Butchart Gardens near Victoria, once a limestone quarry, has spent more than a century transforming into 55 acres of themed gardens, including a Sunken Garden and a Japanese Garden that shifts with the seasons. Whistler’s Peak 2 Peak Gondola, the highest of its kind in the world, connects two mountains via an 11-minute ride that includes glass-bottomed cabins for those brave enough to look straight down.
Rounding out the list, Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park and Vancouver’s Stanley Park both reward slower exploration, from canoe rentals to a nine-kilometre seawall path. The Canadian War Museum in Ottawa closes out the top 10, offering a quieter, more reflective stop for travelers looking to balance scenery with substance.
