Where to Stay in Ubud

Ubud is so beautiful, that one neighbourhood is not specifically better than another. All of the neighbourhoods in this Balinese town are picturesque and interesting, plus it’s easy to get around Ubud with the endless taxis.

But if you’re wanting to stay near Ubud’s most popular attraction, try to stick close to the Monkey forest. The city centre of Ubud has a little midtown jungle which is famous, and for good reason.

Things to do in Ubud

As mentioned earlier, the number one attraction in Ubud is the Monkey Forest. This 12.5 hectare property has monkeys, temples and some beautiful spaces for relaxing.

bali-rice-fields

A wonderful way to start your day is with a sunrise hike up Mount Batur with breakfast. If you’re feeling creative why not try a 3 hour silver jewelry making class? Or if you’re feeling adventurous go rafting on Ayung River.

Tegalalang Rice Terraces offers some very photogenice rice fields. Ubud is known as the arts and culture centre of Bali so if you are interested in experiencing a traditional Balinese performance or another form of entertainment Ubud is where to do it.

Ubud is made for yoga and there are loads of yoga studios in town. Combine your workout with some raw food, an area of expertise for Ubud.

Ubud is home to several galleries and museums including the Blanco Museum, the Agung Rai Museum of Art and the Neka Art Museum. For more Balinese culture visit Ubud Palace, Goa Gajah or Elephant Cave, Tirta Empul Temple and Pura Taman Saraswati or the Ubud water palace.

Ubud Restaurants

There are so many fantastic Bali restaurants! For fantastic local cuisine check out Locavore, one of Asia’s top 50 restaurants. They have two tasting menus – one designed for meat lovers and one for vegetarians.

For fine dining with a view head to Bridges. And try a French Balinese fusion tasting menu at Mozaic.

If you’re looking for more casual dining Locavore have a second restaurant called Nusantara. They are well known for their version of classic Balinese duck. Or try Bali Buda for both yoga and a delicious, great value brunch.

How to get to Ubud

Denpasar is the main airport for Bali. A range of international carriers, most with an Asian base, fly into Denpasar including Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines.

Flights to Denpasar

After you have your bags head to the official taxi office desk. A taxi from Denpasar Airport to Ubud will take about one hour and should cost around USD$20. Do check with your hotel as they may well be able to offer a better rate.

How to get around Ubud

Cycling is one of the easiest and nicest ways to get around Ubud. It is easy to get to the best places to visit in Ubud on two wheels. There are many places in Ubud to hire a bike.

Ubud is also filled with local drivers so most tourists take taxis everywhere. The cost is generally quite inexpensive.

When is the best time to visit Ubud?

The temperature in Ubud is quite steady across the year. The warmest times to visit tend to be November, December and April. July to September tend to be the dry season and are considered by most to be the best time of year to visit Ubud.

Do you need a Visa for Bali?

Residents of most countries, including the USA, UK and Australia, will have to get a visa for Bali. However, you can obtain the Visa once you land at Denpasar airport – it isn’t necessary to get it ahead of time.

At the time of writing this post the cost of the Indonesdian visa was US$25 and it was required to be paid in cash.
