Austria

Austria is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. That applies to visual beauty like the mountains and forests, as well as cultural beauty like music and European history. Austria is a country of palaces, architecture, ancient cities, and skiing.

I made just a few notes about my experiences on my visits to Austria, which you may find fascinating. So, I have recommendations, including itineraries, where to stay, tips, and more.

It’s time to get stuck in!

Austrian Itineraries

Any visit to any country could do with an itinerary, whether detailed or basic. In the case of Austria, with so much to see, there are a couple of itineraries to choose from.

On the face of it, 5 days in Austria is barely enough to get the best out of a visit. But if your time is limited, you can still experience its finest offerings with a plan.

If you have a couple more days to spare, it would be well worth the time to do so. A 7-day Austria itinerary should still include stops in Vienna and Salzburg. Moreover, it could also factor in a holiday in Austria’s third city, Graz.

A special note on Salzburg: As a city of music and culture, Salzburg remains one of Europe’s real gems, and this Salzburg 2-day itinerary will help you experience it all.

Spas and Hotels

Austrian culture has long placed hospitality near the very top of its list of priorities. The Naturhotel Forsthofgut is one of my absolute highlights when it comes to hotel and spa stays. Besides an exquisite room, the choices for treatments, food, and relaxation facilities were second to none.

I also managed to stay at the Hotel Arosa Kitzbühel, and it was a delightful all-round experience, especially for its excellent buffet breakfast. It’s also set in the picturesque countryside near the Austrian Alps.

Notable Towns to Visit and Things to Do

Aside from the main towns mentioned above, you may have an opportunity to visit one of Austria’s other iconic cities and regions. In some ways, Vorarlberg is Austria’s worst-kept secret for discerning skiers.

This state is very mountainous and sits on the Swiss, German, and Liechtenstein borders. The state capital, Bregenz, is a good base from which to start, as it sits on idyllic Lake Constance. I particularly like the idea of mountain biking in the pristine mountain, but here are the best things to do in Vorarlberg if you need more convincing.

The previously mentioned Graz, the second-largest city in Austria, is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. It features the magnificent Hauptplatz.

In 2011, it was nominated as a World City of Design. So it is one of the most exciting cities in the world to visit. Of the many fantastic things to do in Graz, visiting Freiblick Tagescafe should definitely be included.

Innsbruck is the capital of the state of Tyrol in western Austria. Tyrol – and Innsbruck, by association – are known for skiing and other winter sports.

For an old city (it became a capital in 1429), Innsbruck’s modernity is somewhat impressive, especially for facilitating leisure tourists. Look toward its funicular and very modern-styled stations as a few examples. If your vibe is walking tours and photo opportunities, I highly recommend trying these Innsbruck highlights.
