Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea London: The most fun you can have at afternoon tea

London is famous for its plush afternoon teas. There are so many on offer it can be tough to choose – and to compete. So the Sanderson Hotel has come up with its own twist on afternoon tea – the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea London .

The Sanderson is a gorgeous boutique hotel in Soho. You can enjoy your afternoon tea outside with heaters (which I did) or inside.

The menu is hidden inside a vintage book and the first tough decision is which tea to have. There are five on offer all containing different and interesting ingredients and themed to Alice In Wonderland.

My favourite was the Mad Hatter which came infused with passionfruit. I also loved how the tea was served – teapots with images of kings and queened and topped with crowns – and gorgeous crockery printed with clocks and birdcages and other wonderful things.

Next up at the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea London is the savoury selection. This is a mix of mini croque monsieur, cucumber sandwiches, a sort of scotch egg and a crab eclair. These disappeared rather quickly.

Then on to the highlight – the sweet selection. Wow!! From fudge caterpillars to red velvet ladybird cakes, some delicious classic scones and coffee macaroons branded as pocket watches.

The drink me potion is passionfruit heavy and delicious and can be topped off with magic marshmallow mushrooms.

Just when you think you can eat no more the tea is capped off with a gorgeous pot of chocolate and some other things of which I am unsure but they were certainly delicious.

Boutique Hotels in London

Booking.com is my favourite website for booking hotels. There is a great range with fab prices. Once you have made 5 bookings over 2 years you will gain genius status which opens up more deals. And perhaps best of all you can cancel most bookings up to 24 hours out which is super handy.

You can, of course, stay at The Sanderson, home to the Mad Hatters Tea Party.

However, here are some other options for boutique hotels in London: Artist Residence is located in Pimlico which is fabulously central. It is in a gorgeous 5 store regency building and has a cute bar.

The Portobello Hotel is located in one of London’s best known and cutest neighbourhoods Notting Hill. This is also the hotel where Kate Moss and Johnny Depp filled up the bath with champagne. The hotel is located on a quiet street but is a great location.

The Great Northern Hotel is ridiculously close to Kings Cross and St Pancras stations which is incredibly convenient. The hotel dates back to 1854 but has had a major refurb so it feels fresh and modern.

The Hoxton hotel is in the heart of East London in Shoreditch and is a perfect base for exploration. The rooms aren’t huge but the location makes up for it – as does the great value for London with rooms starting at £99 a night.

Best Ways to get from the airport into London

London has several airports. It can be confusing and expensive to get from each of the airports into central London. And the last thing you need after a flight! It is much easier to organize tickets before you fly.

Heathrow is the most common airport for international flights. The fastest way to get from Heathrow into Central London is the Heathrow Express.

This train only takes 15 minutes to get from Heathrow to Paddington Station and runs 4 times an hour. The Heathrow Express is much faster than a cab or any other option.

The lowest cost way to get from Heathrow to central London is the tube. The tube is actually one of the fastest options as well – and will get you the closest to your final destination.

Gatwick Airport is south of London and can be quite the distance in a car. The Gatwick Express is the fastest option into London and runs directly from Gatwick to Victoria Station.

Tours Around London:

Central London and the key tourist sights are so much closer than you might think. Grab your visitor oyster card and it is quite easy to get around.

In addition to doing that I personally love taking a couple of tours when I visit cities – especially to find interesting food places or more recent history or hidden gems.

Two tour companies I like alot for general interesting tours in London are Local Guddy and Get Your Guide. I also highly recommend London Tailored Tours and the fab Charlie – especially for her brilliant Borough Market Tour.

I love afternoon teas but this one sounds particularly fun! I'm tempted to ask for this as a birthday present. If only I had more birthdays each year!
